PLOVER, WI (WSAU) – The Portage County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding a successful search for a man who briefly went missing on the Plover River.
According to a press release, a 48-year-old female caller contacted the Portage County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning to report that her 63-year-old partner had gone missing after tubing on the Plover River. The two were floating down the Plover River on inflatable inner tubes when they separated. The female stated that they began their floating at Jordan Park, 1903 Cty Hwy Y, in the Town of Hull, and she attempted to locate him on her own before contacting authorities.
Numerous resources from agencies were used to locate the male. Residents in the 1400 block of Oxbow Rd contacted the Communications Center at 7:14 a.m. to report hearing someone shouting for aid near the Plover River. The residents discovered the male and helped him get out of the water. Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the individual.
The individual was given precautionary medical care on the scene and declined transport to a hospital. The male said that he became separated from the female when he paused to rest, while the female continued to float downstream.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, Plover Police Dept., Stevens Point Police Dept., Stevens Point Fire Dept., Portage County Ambulance, and Hull Fire Dept.
