MEXICO CITY, July 15 (Reuters) – Chipotle Mexican Grill will open its first restaurant in Mexico in the northern border state of Nuevo Leon, local operator Alsea said on Tuesday.
Alsea, whose portfolio includes Domino’s Pizza, Starbucks and Burger King in Europe and Latin America, operates more than 4,830 locations and will serve as the development and expansion partner for the California-based chain.
• The inaugural restaurant will open on Thursday in the state of Nuevo Leon which borders the United States.
• “The opening of this first restaurant represents the beginning of Chipotle’s growth strategy in Mexico,” Alsea said in a statement.
• The multinational also noted that Mexico’s market has “high potential for the development of innovative proposals within the quick-service restaurant segment.”
• Chipotle currently operates more than 4,100 locations worldwide, with menus featuring burritos, bowls, tacos and salads.
• Alsea operates in Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, France, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Uruguay.
