MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A Plover mom was caught on surveillance video tampering with her child’s feeding tube at Marshfield Medical Center, according to a criminal complaint.
Holly Fields, 24, is charged with felony physical abuse of a child and chronic neglect after prosecutors said she admitted to changing the formula in the feeding tube because she thought it was better for the baby. A doctor told police that if the mother’s actions would have continued, “the child could have died from the lack of calories and nutrition.”
Between April and May the 10-month-old child was hospitalized and wasn’t gaining weight or eating well. The mother of the child was exhibiting odd behaviors so the medical team decided to monitor what was happening with video surveillance.
Fields could be seen on the video using a syringe with an unknown substance to spray the child in the face and then call for help from the doctors.
Doctors told police that after the child was removed from Field’s care, his health improved.
Fields is free on a $5,000 signature bond, according to court records.
