MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Merrill man has pled guilty to charges that he murdered his father in January of 2016.
Online court records indicate Tyler Monroe entered a guilty plea to one count of Second-Degree Intentional Homicide on Friday for the death of 55-year-old Kevin Monroe. In exchange for the guilty plea, several other counts were read in and dropped including hiding a corpse, bail jumping, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The younger Monroe is believed to have killed his father in early January 2016, hiding his body in the bedroom of his father’s apartment. Tyler began telling people that his father was on a business trip. However, those close to Kevin said he never traveled for work. When a friend went to Kevin’s apartment to check on him, he found a rolled towel at the base of his bedroom door which also appeared to be glued shut. He then forced his way into the room and found Kevin’s body.
Investigators say he was likely stabbed over two dozen times and had been dead for more than a week. After his father’s body was discovered, Tyler crashed his dad’s car north of Merrill. He was later arrested on a probation hold.
A handwritten note saying “Gone business trip over a month” was later traced back to Tyler through handwriting samples. His fingerprints were also found on the note.
A scheduling conference was set for June 28th.
