RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Local organizers in Central Wisconsin are making it easier for citizens to vote.
Northwoods Transit Connection in Rhinelander is providing free rides to the polls on election day for the third year in a row. Transit manager Roger Youngern told WAOW-TV that the rides are part of the company’s civic duty to its riders. “We really feel it’s our civic duty to get people out there and vote. There are many people that don’t have the means of transportation that rely on us.”
Northwoods Transit Connection will take riders to poll locations in Lakeland, Eagle River, and Rhinelander. With it being the third year for free rides, Youngern is hopeful turnout will continue to grow. “We usually have 10 to 12 on voting day, and hopefully the word will get out a little bit more and have more ridership.”
Other services are also offering free rides for election day including the Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers. Rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft are also offering discounted rides on election day.
