WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Hundreds of residents in Marathon County showed up at the United Methodist Church in Wausau to participate in the United Way’s Make a Difference Day.
Up to 800 volunteers came out to rake for residents in the community who are unable to do so themselves. Wausau resident Joanna Ebben told WAOW-TV that she is thankful for the service of the volunteers. “I can’t get out at all to do that so I’m very grateful for that service. I would have to hire someone to rake for me. So I really appreciate it.”
For those out volunteering like Daniel Craig and members of Thrive Church, it was pretty easy to be out on Saturday morning helping rake yards. “We just want to help our community in any way that we can. We just believe that it’s our purpose to help out and show God’s love.”
Volunteers weren’t just raking on Saturday as many companies and children volunteered throughout the week. Those that were unable to help rake were able to participate in Make a Difference Day by donating nonperishable food items or gently used winter clothing to the United Way.
