WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Woodson YMCA has announced that the Greenheck corporation is the latest to make public their contribution to a $16 million campaign to fund improvements to the Y’s downtown campus.
Officials with the YMCA say Greenheck has put $1 million towards the project.
Since plans for the $40 million health and wellness campus between the YMCA and Aspirus Health was announced, other groups such as B.A. and Esther Greenheck Foundation, Nancy Woodson Spire Foundation, and the Judd S. Alexander Foundation have announced donations totaling $6 million.
Officials with the YMCA plan to raise the final $3 million in funding through an individual campaign drive this fall. Funding for the senior center and Asirus building has already been secured.
The nearly $40 million campuses will involve a new Aspirus medical center and clinic as well as an expansion of the YMCA to include a field house.
The project will be funded privately, however, city approval is still needed to reroute some downtown streets to allow the two campuses to be connected and to expand parking at the site.
