STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — An event-based off a popular series of Youtube talks will be returning to UW-Stevens Point.
UWSP is hosting it’s second TEDx event on Saturday, April 13th at the Dreyfus Center on campus. Executive Director of the event student Erika Schilling explains with the theme “Outside the Box” the focus for this year was having speakers with ties to Stevens Point.
“This year we are actually featuring a bunch of Stevens Point area people. Community members, alumni, a professor, and then people from the surrounding areas. Which is different from last year because we had people from all over. And then this year we’re really really honing in on that community aspect of the event.”
Schilling says one of the featured speakers will be an alumnus who is currently living in Thailand. “We are actually having one of our old alumni from the university who currently lives in Thailand come and speak about her experience of being stateless.”
Schilling explains the idea for the event and how the university got involved with TEDx happened a couple of years ago. “It kind of started out as kind of a crazy idea from last years executive team. And they were like well we should try to do this. And then it’s just kind of grown into this bigger thing that we are doing this year.”
The TEDx event on Saturday will be from 11 AM until 2 PM in the Encore Room. Schilling says they only have 100 tickets for the event and that many of them are already gone. You can purchase a ticket at the door on Saturday, but Schilling recommends getting tickets early.
Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.uwsp.edu. Tickets are $20 for the public and $15 for students.
