WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – After melting snow and rain, flood warnings have been posted for Wisconsin River below Wausau and at Rothschild.
“So boaters, people on the water you know just being respectful to the dams knowing that we are in a position right now where things are changing quickly,” said Peter Hansen, the Vice President of Operations with the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company.
Experts say that things could have been much worse if most of the snow hadn’t already melted.
At Oak Island Park water covered the curbs and the water levels were so high that they were almost touching tree branches. The water covered the entire boat launch making it’s way to the parking lot.
There were reports of water over the roadway at Highway 153 in Elderon at Maple Road. The road was closed in both directions Thursday morning.
Marshfield police also reported some street flooding Wednesday. North Peach Street between Harrison and Ives and North Gavin Street between Arnold and Filmore had standing water in the roadways.
