DETROIT, MI (WSAU) — The Green Bay Packers will not play on the first weekend of the NFL Playoffs.
Because they’ll be on a bye.
Kicker Mason Crosby nailed a 33-yard field goal to break a 20-all tie and give his team an extra week to prepare for the playoffs.
The kick capped off an 8-play, 53-yard drive that came after Green Bay had tied the game at 20 following an Aaron Rodgers touchdown pass to Allen Lazard, one of two such passes by Rodgers in the game. The other came in the 3rd to Davante Adams, which was the first touchdown of the game for the Green and Gold.
The win completed a perfect 6-0 season against NFC North competition for the Packers. In both games against the Lions, Green Bay trailed for the duration of the game before winning on the final play.
Detroit scored the games first 14 points and took a 17-3 lead into the halftime locker room before the Packers turned it around in the 3rd.
Rodgers finished the game 27/55 for 323 yards and the two scores. He also threw one interception. Aaron Jones finished with 25 carries for exactly 100 yards. Adams finished the game with 7 catches for 93 yards and 1 touchdown on 13 targets.
The win clinched at worst the #2 seed and could still earn home-field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs with a San Francisco loss this evening on Sunday Night Football.
The NFL will announce the complete Playoff schedule during tonight’s game between the 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks.
