MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Governor Scott Walker sent a series of Tweets Sunday night highlighting the accomplishments of his eight-year term in office, just hours before Tony Evers will take over the position.
Topics the Governor covered included economic development and the state’s record-low unemployment. Part of that also covered recent bills that require able-bodied adults to be working in order to receive public assistance and the Welfare-to-Work program, which he says helped some 30,000 people transition off assistance.
He also spoke of the future of the Foxconn project, which is set to bring thousands of jobs to the state by 2020. Walker also Tweeted about bringing companies like HARIBO into Wisconsin and helping others like Kwik Trip and Milwaukee Tool to grow in the last eight years.
Walker said his leadership helped more people access to health care through Medicaid, and helped decrease dependence on opioids through bi-partisan legislation that monitors the distribution of the drugs. He also spoke of mental health grants given to schools and lower health insurance premiums through the Wisconsin Healthcare Stability Plan.
Walker’s Tweets also dove into controversial topics, such as a drop in the state’s abortion rate from over 7,800 in 2010 to just over 5,800 last year, which the Governor says is still too many but it’s progress. He also touted measures which require able-bodied, working-age adults to work in order to get public assistance.
Walker’s term as Governor is up late Monday morning when Tony Evers is set to take the oath of office.
