WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Two more stores are leaving the Wausau Center Mall. Employees confirmed to WOAW that Hibbett Sports and Yankee Candle are shutting down.
A 75-percent off sale sign is posted inside Yankee Candle. At Hibbett Sports the gate was closed and it had a few empty shelves with a “Store Closing” sign.
One employee told WAOW that the closing came as a surprise for her. “Just the fact that they gave us no notice like when you quite a job they expect a two week notice but they walk in on this day and say today is your last day like you didn’t give us any notice to find another job ” said Nicole Halpin a former Hibbett Sports employee.
Halpin also said when she worked her shift on Sunday there was no indication of the store closing.
Over the passed few years stores have continued to leave the Wausau Center Mall. All of the anchor store location are empty, although HOM Furniture plans to open in the old Younkers space later this year.
