WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man is facing OWI charges while carrying two teens in the vehicle.
Shawn Hignite Sr. is facing two charges of OWI causing injury with passengers under the age of 16 along with three firearms-related charges.
The incident stems from a June 30th crash in the Village of Weston near Ross Avenue and Babl Lane. The 45-year-old is accused of being under the influence when he crashed the vehicle. A 15-year-old passenger tried to get away from the crash but fell down, a 13-year-old did manage to leave the scene.
A gun was found inside the car, leading to additional charges of carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and operating a firearm while intoxicated.
Bond was set at $5,000 with the first $2,500 in cash on the condition that he have no contact with the victims of the crash. He was also instructed to maintain absolute sobriety and not possess any dangerous weapons.
Hignite will return to court on July 10th for a preliminary hearing and on July 30th for a pre-trial conference.
