STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Testing on an old rape kit is leading to criminal charges from a sexual assault seven years ago in Stevens Point.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced that Terence D. Blackmon, 45, of Plover is being charged with second degree sexual assault for in incident from May, 2012. He was arrested and booked into the Portage County jail on Tuesday.
The State Department of Justice says the results of the rape kit test was matched with the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the case to call 608-266-1671.
The testing of old rape kits has been a long-standing issue in Wisconsin. A program called the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (WiSAKI) is providing funding and staffing to clear the backlog.
