MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Freddie Freeman’s three-run home run scored Dansby Swanson and Ronald Acuna Jr as the Braves outlasted the Brewers 4-2 Monday night in a showdown of two postseason teams from 2018.
Freeman’s 4th inning tater provided most of the scoring on a night that was dominated by pitching. Adrian Houser went six innings and allowed 8 hits along with four earned runs but was charged with the loss.
Max Fried turned in 5 solid innings and allowed just three hits. Josh Tomlin gave up two runs in the 6th but was still credited with a hold. Anthony Swarzak and Luke Jackson kept the Brewers bats down in the 8th and 9th, respectively.
Milwaukee did their damage courtesy of a Ryan Braun home run to deep center and a Keston Hiura triple which scored Mike Moustakas.
Hiura finished with three of the Brewers seven hits on the night. Christian Yelich added two singles.
Austin Riley added a sac fly in the 7th to provide additional insurance for Atlanta.
Milwaukee falls to 48-47 with the loss. The same two teams will go at it Tuesday night at Miller Park. Pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on WSAU.
