PHOENIX, AZ (WSAU) — An eighth-inning blast from Mike Moustakas and another three-hit day from Christian Yelich helped to back up a solid outing from the Milwaukee bullpen as the Brewers defeated Arizona 8-3 on Saturday.
Moustakas’ three-run blast turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead for the Crew. They would add three more in the 9th on an RBI double by Yelich followed by a two-RBI single by Keston Hiura.
Yelich finished 3-5 with one RBI and three runs scored. Hiura and Ryan Braun added two hits each.
The late-inning outburst came after former Brewer Zach Grenke held the Crew down for seven innings, scattering six hits and two earned runs in the start. Reliever Andrew Chafin was credited with the loss and a blown save after serving up the home run ball to Moustakas.
Milwaukee starter Gio Gonzales was roughed up in four innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs to earn a no-decision. Adrian Houser (3-4) earned the win, Josh Hader was credited with a hold as he struck out two batters to close out the 8th. Jeremy Jeffress worked around one walk to close out the 9th.
The same two teams will close out their three-game set Sunday afternoon with pregame coverage beginning at 2:35 on WSAU.
