MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — Aggressive plans to rebuild Marshfield’s Wesley United Methodist Church are officially underway following Sunday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
Pastor Lourdes Magalhaes used the ceremony to say thank you to everyone that helped the Church get to this point. “Everyone asking, trying to help us [in any way,] I say thank you to all of you.”
Marshfield Mayor Bob McManus echoed those comments and then thanked the Church for their inspiration as well. “When things happen to us, it’s not what happens to us that matters. But rather, how we respond, and it was beautiful to watch how you responded to this devastation.
“It was amazing to see, and thank you. The community helped you, but I believe that you helped the community even more,” added the Mayor.
The new Wesley United Methodist Church will consist of 13,300 square feet of space on a single level at 205 East 3rd Street. The new facility will include office and meeting space, a nursery, a sanctuary, a multi-purpose room, classrooms for Sunday School, and space for the Marshfield Area Respite Care Center.
Officials tell WDLB Radio in Marshfield that they are aiming for an Easter 2020 grand opening, which would be Sunday, April 12th.

Sunday’s ceremony began with a one-year remembrance of the fire that broke out on September 2nd, 2018. One week later officials determined that the fire started in the kitchen area of the Church and that the fire had been burning for some time before crews arrived on the scene.
State Fire Marshalls listed the cause of the fire as undetermined.
