WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-Student Journalism Project) The mayoral debate that took place on Wednesday, February 5th was sponsored by the American Association of University Women and Citizen Action Education Fund.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin is an issue-focused coalition of individuals and organizations committed to achieving social, economic, and environmental justice.
Robert Mielke the Mayor and Katie Rosenberg were at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point at Wausau campus for the debate.
The debate held many topics of interest and problems of the town topics like public transportation and climate change. The debate started at six and went on for around forty-five minutes before they began answering questions from the crowd. Both Mielke and Rosenberg began the debate saying it’s for the people and the love of the community.
The room that the debate was held in was small and they had to turn away people but luckily for them, they were able to have A live feed provided by Wausau’s City Access cable channel. Not being able to get a bigger room may have caused a few cramped legs but how many people who showed up to show that they care was still amazing.
The people who showed up to show their support for making a decision were widely different; there were a lot of younger voters who came to the debate as well as the older people. But for as to who is going to win, we will have to wait until election time comes.
The Student Journalism Project gives high school students an opportunity to report on local news items of interest and have their work shared on-air and on-line. It is a cooperative program of Midwest Communications and the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS).
