CHELSEA, WI (WSAU) — One person is dead following an accident near Medford on Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, the office received a 911 call of a two-vehicle accident in the Town of Chelsea on State Highway 13. Sheriff’s deputies along with other first responders were dispatched out to the scene at 2:20 p.m.
When responders arrived at the scene they found a head-on two-vehicle accident that had one fatality. The name of the deceased is being withheld until the family is notified of the death.
Preliminary investigation and witness information reveal the victim was driving their SUV southbound on State Highway 13. The SUV drifted into the northbound lane in front of an approaching semi-truck. The semi and SUV collided head-on resulting in the SUV driver’s death.
The SUV driver had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The semi driver was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. It is unknown what caused the SUV to drift into the other lane and an investigation is ongoing.
