UNDATED (WSAU) — Municipalities through central Wisconsin are gearing up for the coming winter storm by declaring snow emergencies.
Drivers will need to keep their vehicles off the roads throughout this evening through at least tomorrow in a number of communities. That’s so snow plows can get through and keep roads clear.
Emergencies have been declared in Merrill, Stevens Point, Plover, Wausau, and Wisconsin Rapids. Failure to get your car off the road could result in a hefty fine or having your car towed. You’re also reminded to make sure you keep your sidewalks and the end of your driveways clear, and to clear out the snow from around any fire hydrants that are nearby.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 3 pm today through 6 am Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service in Green Bay says snowfalls will pick up through the afternoon and be heaviest from around 7 pm tonight through 2 am Tuesday morning.
You should be expecting around four to eight inches of snow from Wausau to the south and five to nine inches father north. That snow could combine with sleet in places, and will make for very slick and dangerous driving conditions. Blustery winds will also be blowing and drifting snow across roads.
