WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Officials at Northcentral Health Care have announced that five residents at the Mount View Care Center have tested positive for COVID-19, triggering new restrictions for visitors and residents at the facility.
Beginning immediately all forms of in-person visitation has been canceled including window visits and all outdoor visits. Virtual visits will still be offered for family members.
NCHC CEO Michael Loy acknowledged that the move will put a strain on families, saying “we know that the decision to restrict our outdoor visitation will be difficult for families and loved ones, however based on the high level of community spread currently in our counties of service, we believe this decision is in the best interest of our residents, staff and visitors.”
“We strongly encourage everyone in our community to continue wearing masks while in public, practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings. The actions you take every day to prevent the spread of Covid-19 can make a difference in preventing our most vulnerable populations from contracting this virus,” he added.
These restrictions have also been put in place for the Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill.
All five residents reside in a single unit of the care facility and employees are following guidelines issued by the Marathon County Health Department to keep the disease from spreading to other residents.
The positive tests were reported on Saturday. The latest round of testing was triggered by an employee who tested positive for the disease back on July 19th. The initial round of testing in the days that followed showed no positive results. Testing will continue every 3-7 days for the foreseeable future.
