MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) – Marshfield’s annual recognition of our country’s independence will go on, but with a few changes.
The Common Council voted unanimously last night in favor of allowing the annual fireworks display originating from the fairgrounds–but there will be no crowds in the grandstands, no food stands or kids’ activities such as bounce houses.
The Council rejected a recommendation to keep the restrooms closed to the public because of social-distancing concerns raised by the Coronavirus pandemic. Alderman Ken Bargender said the use of restrooms would have to be allowed in order for him to support the event. “Where are you going to take your children if they need to use the restroom?” Bargender asked.
Festival Foods sponsors the annual fireworks displays in a number of Wisconsin communities, including Marshfield.
The Marshfield council also voted to close Hepko Pool for the first time in 86 years. Instead the construction timeline will be bumped up for a new aquatic center.
The Council voted 9-1 in favor of keeping the pool shut down in the face of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, and instead saving those operational expenses by moving forward with an aquatic center project that is close to raising the needed funding for construction.
