STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point are working to determine if a house fire and high-speed chase are in any way related.
A release from acting Chief Tom Zenner says as officials were investigating a structure fire in the 700 block of Smith Street they observed a suspicious vehicle operating nearby. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle for questioning, the driver took off.
Officers chased the car for over 20 miles before a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was performed to end the chase in the Amherst area. A 17-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene.
No one was injured in the pursuit. Assisting agencies included the Wisconsin State Patrol and Portage County Sheriff’s office.
