NEKOOSA, WI (WSAU) — A morning crash in Wood County has resulted in two deaths and two injured.
The crash happened at 10:49 a.m. on WIS 173 NB at CTH GG near Nekoosa. The Wood County Highway Department was working on highway maintenance on STH 173 at the time. A 2019 box truck approached the maintenance site and moved into the westbound lane of traffic.
When the 45-year-old driver from Custer changed lanes a 2019 dump truck crashed into the box truck. The dump truck was driven by a 57-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man.
The two drivers were the only people in their vehicles. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene with police arrived. Te names of the victims have not been released at this time.
The State Patrol is investigating the crash. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
