MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Most of us want to be healthy, and now some cities have a chance to be known as a great place to achieve and maintain that good health.
City administrator Steve Barg says that’s why the City of Marshfield is applying for the official “Wisconsin Healthy Communities” designation.
“It’s really about trying to say, we want to be a community that promotes healthy living, healthy lifestyles, healthy environment for our citizens,” Barg said. “This would be a good place to employ people, to live, to work, to play, and to set up roots.”
City officials say the designation is given to deserving communities around the state; and according to Barg, there’s no charge involved and it’s really just about being a healthy place to live.
“It’s not like other programs where we have to pay 50% of something, or we’re hoping to get a grant for $20,000,” Barg explained. “It really is, based upon what we are trying to become, and ultimately we may be recognized in some way as part of the program.”
City officials say they anticipate getting some assistance from the city’s Healthy Lifestyles Coalition, as well as from the Marshfield Clinic’s Center for Community Outreach, as they go through the application process for the “Wisconsin Healthy Communities” designation.
