MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — Officials with the Taylor County Humane Society say that the cats left outside their facility last week have all been treated or are in the process of being treated for their illnesses.
Officials say all of them had some sort of ailment ranging from ear mites to worms and upper respiratory infections. Some also had eye issues.
As of Sunday most of the cats were improving, but some required additional veterinary care which would be done this week. All the animals will be fixed and put up for adoption once they are healthy.
“They will make wonderful companions for some lucky people,” officials add.
The workers at the Humane Society went on to thank the community for reaching out to make additional donations after word of the incident spread on social media late last week. They will be updating the community on Facebook when they know exactly what will be needed to bring the animals back to health.
The cats were left in three storage totes sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20th and 6:30 a.m. Thursday, November 21st. According to images posted on the Society’s Facebook page, the bins were duct-taped shut with air holes punched in the top.
The person or persons responsible for leaving the cats could face charges of animal abandonment. Anyone with information about the cats is asked to contact the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department at 715-748-2200.
