WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man previously accused of child sex crimes is back behind bars on accusations that he kept thousands of intimate pictures of children in his Google account and electronic devices.
Paul Maki was arrested in late July after a tip from Google and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted officers to over 170 images of child pornography on his Google Drive. Another 3,900 were found on his phone after authorities obtained a search warrant for the device.
He now faces 11 counts of possession of child pornography, each of which carries a repeat modifier.
Maki, 38, was previously in prison for second-degree sexual assault of a child. He was released back into the community in September of 2018 after completing his sentence for those charges.
As a repeat offender, Maki could serve up to 31 years in prison for each count, plus an additional ten years because he was on extended release for the previous sentence. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond and returns to court on August 19th for a preliminary hearing.
