STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A multiple hours search warrant is over in Stevens Point.
According to a news release, the Stevens Point Police Department executed a search warrant in the 1600 block of Main Street. During the search, the subject, 41-year-old Bernard Gordon was not compliant in exiting the residence. Gordon and police then ended up in a lengthy standoff. After lengthy negotiations, Gordon surrendered peacefully. He has been taken into custody and will be transported to the Portage County Jail.
The area around the 1600 block of Main Street is now safe for the public to return to. The department thanks the community for their assistance in avoiding the area of 1600 Main Street during the search warrant. More information about the incident is expected to be released tomorrow as the investigation continues.
Assistance to the department was also provided by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the Stevens Point Fire Department, and the UWSP Police Department.

The Stevens Point Police Department is asking the public to avoid the 1600 block of Main Street.
Officers are executing a search warrant in a home in that area near the intersection with Rodgers St. That area also includes a stop on the Blue 2 bus line.
No further information, including the nature of the search warrant, has been released. Officers will offer more details as they become available.
