PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) — An attempted 9th inning comeback fell well short for the Brewers in a 12-5 loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Jedd Gyorko and Keston Hiura each homered in the contest. Gyorko with a solo shot in the 3rd, and Hiura with a three-run blast in the 7th to score Christian Yelich and Orlando Arcia.
Ryan Braun brought in one run in the 9th on a ground-rule double, but that’s all the closer the Brewers would get. The Pirates did most of their damage between the 4th and 7th innings, scoring 11 runs in that stretch.
Mark Mathias went 2-4 in the game with two doubles, he was the only Brewer with multiple hits.
Josh Lindblom took the loss for Milwaukee after allowing six hits and three earned runs over four innings. Brent Suter and Eric Yardley followed, each allowing two runs over an inning of work.
Derek Holland picked up the win for the Pirates. Gregor Polanco added a double, a home run, and two RBI in the win.
The same two teams will wrap up their three-game weekend set today. Pregame coverage begins at 12 noon.
