WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A rally was held locally to support a Black man who was shot by police in Kenosha this week.
Local residents took to the Marathon County Courthouse lawn Tuesday afternoon to voice their support for Jacob Blake, a Black man shot 7-times in the back by Kenosha Police on Sunday evening. A few dozen residents attended the rally put together by local organizers.
One organizer, Kayley McColley told WAOW-TV, “As always black lives matter today, they mattered earlier in the summer, and we’re standing here to show solidarity with the black people in this community and also with the black folks in Kenosha.”
Protests and rallies in support of Blake and the Black Lives Matter movement have continued across the state. The police officers involved in the shooting Sunday night are currently on administrative leave as the Wisconsin Department of Justice investigates the incident.
