Mark Meurette
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A former manager of the Landmark Apartments in Wausau was ordered to stand trial for stealing rent money.
A judge ruled Tuesday there is enough evidence for the case against Mark R. Meurette, 63, to proceed. He’s accused of stealing more than $180,000. The charge against him is ‘Felony Theft From A Business Setting of more than $100,000.’ He is free on signature bond.
When charges were filed in February, Meurette admitted to taking about $15,000 in rent that he’d collected from tenants. He told investigators he’d took the money to pay for drugs. A review by an accountant showed that the amount of money that was missing was much higher.
Meurette is also accused of falsifying work records, being paid for $17,000 when he was not working. His coming and going from the Landmark Apartment was reviewed because of security camera footage.
The case is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on September 14.
