FRIENDSHIP, WI (WSAU) — An Adams County man is now facing charges homicide in connection with a drunk driving crash that killed a passenger in her vehicle.
Shannon Maron has been recommended for one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after the car she was driving went off the road, ramped a hill, then went airborne before hitting a tree and bursting into flames.
His passenger, identified as 36-year-old John Smerz of Grand Marsh, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have determined that speed and impaired driving were factors in the crash.
No court action against Maron has been scheduled.
