WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Marathon County’s Executive Committee has cleared County Clerk Kim Trueblood of ethics violations. An investigation was closed last Thursday.
Trueblood, a supporter of opening local schools for in-person instruction, posted on social media that she would use the power of her office to assist the group ‘Parents for Wausau Schools ReOPENING.’ She wrote, “Due to my position, I have to be careful with what I support publicly, but I can get info and do anything behind the scenes.’ Trueblood also urged supporters to flood County Health Officer Joan Theuer with emails.
Trueblood said in a written statement that she takes full responsibility for her choice of language.
The Executive Committee said Trueblood could still face censure, which would need to be voted on by the full Marathon County Board of Supervisors. The committee has not made such a recommendation.
In closing the ethics investigation, the Executive Committee found that Trueblood did not use county computers or work time while posting the messages, and that there was no evidence that she misused her office.
