WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Stevens Point man suspected of killing one person and injuring a child while driving with a suspended license in 2017 nearly forfeited his bond after he almost missed a court appearance.
Court records show Ian Rosebrook was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 but failed to show on time. Court was adjourned eight minutes later but then called back in session just before 3 PM when Rosebrook showed up to represent himself pro se.
A calendar call was then set for November 13th. The judge then canceled the bond forfeiture hearing that had been scheduled 20 minutes prior. Rosebrook had been free on a $5,000 signature bond.
Officers say he had a measurable amount of THC in his blood when he blew through a stop sign in rural Marathon County three years ago and right into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The crash killed his girlfriend and injured her three-month-old child.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No charges were filed at the time of the crash.
Current charges include knowingly operating a vehicle with a suspended license and operating a vehicle while under the influence. It’s unclear why those charges have been brought forward three years later.
Editors note: This story was originally published after the court had set a bond forfeiture hearing, and updated to reflect the fact that Rosebrook did show up late.
