Heith Gureski
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County man accused of killing his friend in a drunk driving crash in late November has entered a plea to charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Heith Gureski entered a not guilty plea Wednesday in Marathon County court for the count. He’s accused of leaving a Weston tavern with his friend, 21-year-old Bryce Giles, in the passenger seat of his vehicle. Witnesses say Gureski left the parking lot at a high rate of speed down County Road J.
Police were later called to the intersection of J and Roble Lane for a report of a rollover crash. They found Giles dead at the scene, while Gureski suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Gureski told police he couldn’t remember how many drinks he had consumed that night. He claimed to be going 55 MPH when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled into the ditch, striking a tree in the process.
A final pre-trial conference in the case is scheduled for January 26th.
