RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — You can own a piece of Rib Mountain history while donating to a good cause at the same time.
The Town of Rib Mountain is currently selling old street signs that were taken down last year as part of the uniform addressing project in Marathon County. The signs are being sold this month for a $20 donation to the expansion of Sandy Bark Dog Park on Hummingbird Road.
Town Administrator Gaylene Rhoden explains the more popular of the street signs were part of a silent auction last month to raise more funds for the project. “So we just wanted to open it up to everybody without requiring a bid process and just have a $20 payment.”
According to Rhoden, the signs have been selling well since the silent auction in November. “It’s been a great success. People are talking on social media like, ‘Oh we used to live there and would like that!’.
“So we do have people for example I know there’s a gentleman who actually used to work for the town years ago and he lives out of state. People like that are interested and grabbing their sign.”
The idea to sell the old signs to help fund the dog park came from members of the Town Board during a meeting discussion in early April about the dog park phase II expansion. Once the board decided on the auction for the signs the project was taken over by the Street and Parks Department in May.
The expansion project for the dog park is still in its early planning stages. Rhoden says the project is likely to be executed in phases as the scope of the project is more than just dog park equipment.
“It’s the dog park expansion but it’s also walking paths as well that will tie into the County R trails. This will be part of the beginnings of putting that money aside. This will probably be proceeds that could be used for the first part of that project.”
A list of street signs still available for purchase is available at the Town of Rib Mountain’s website. Those who would like to purchase a sign are encouraged to call the Rib Mountain Municipal Center at 715-842-0983.
