WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Marshfield Clinic has begun the administration and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in Central Wisconsin as of Wednesday.
According to a press release from the hospital system they received an undisclosed number of doses of the vaccine that were then distributed to other sites. Some doses were also kept for Marshfield Clinic employees.
Officials haven’t disclosed how many vaccines were received in the initial shipment but did say that additional doses will be coming in the next few days.
Marshfield Clinic is serving as one of a handful of distribution hubs for the vaccine in the state because of their ability to keep the doses at the required temperature.
Other distribution sites like UW Health announced their first vaccinations on Tuesday.
Front-line healthcare workers and long term care residents remain first in line to receive the vaccine. It remains unclear when the general population will be able to get vaccinated, but many have estimated that may happen by the second quarter of 2021.
FDA officials will discuss approving Moderna’s version of the vaccine for emergency use on Thursday.
