WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin and Win Brockmeyer Memorial Committee has awarded the 2020 Win Brockmeyer Memorial Scholarship to D.C. Everest’s Orion Boe.
Boe, a two-way player for the Evergreens, was named first-team All-Conference as a linebacker and was also named the league’s defensive player of the year.
Boe also finished as a finalist for the John Anderson Award which goes to the best prep Linebacker in the state and was voted all-region at the position.
Offensively, Boe was the primary running back for the Evergreens in 2019 while also playing nose tackle on defense. He shifted to more of a goal-line/fullback role in 2020 while also moving to linebacker.
He intends to play football at college next year, though he is still deciding where that will be. Boe did tell WAOW’s Brad Hanson after the ceremony that he would prefer to play defense at the next level.
According to recruiting website Rivals.com, Boe has shown interest in walking-on at the University of Wisconsin, but has not made an official visit with the Badgers and has received no formal offer.
Evergreen’s Head Coach Tim Strehlow says it’s players like Boe that have helped him lay the foundation for what he’d like the program to become. “This is my 4th year, and he’s really been a part of the program from the beginning [especially] as far as the building blocks and the character. He’s been a part of it the whole time.
“For a guy like him; what he does and his work ethic- [it’s] going to take him far in life, no question,” added Strehlow.
As the winner, Boe receives a $1,500 scholarship from the Community Foundation.
Boe was nominated alongside Dylan Ackermann of Newman Catholic, Ean Marciniak of Wausau West, and Jack Ohrmundt of Wausau East.
The three other nominees each receive a $500 scholarship as well.
The Win Brockmeyer award is in its 25th year honoring football standouts from Wausau East, Wausau West, Newman Catholic, and D.C. Everest. To date, over 80 players have been honored as nominees for the award, splitting over $70,000 in scholarship money among themselves.
Boe is the second Evergreen in three years to win the award after Zach Mueller in 2017.
