WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A new complex of baseball and softball diamonds have been proposed for the Wisconsin Rapids school district.
WAOW TV reports the four-diamond complex would feature two fields each for baseball and softball along with stadium seating and press box facilities.
Each diamond would have a field-turf infield and natural grass outfields.
The price tag for the project currently sits at around $5 million, but some 80% of that has already been raised. School officials are hopeful that local business support can make up the final 20%.
Wisconsin Rapids public schools superintendent Craig Broeren says the district has been eyeing a facility like this for some time, saying the plan is to not only use it for school events but to bring other tournaments and games into town during the summer to help grow the local tourism economy.
Groundbreaking for the complex could happen sometime in 2021. A grand-opening date has not been set.
