WASHINGTON DC (MetroSource-WSAU) — For the first time, Congress is overriding a President Trump veto.
The Senate voted 81-to-13 Friday to override the President’s veto of the defense policy bill in a rare New Year’s Day session. Both chambers of Congress needed two-thirds majority to overcome the President’s veto and both got it easily.
Trump said he vetoed the bipartisan bill because he wanted Section 230 that grants liability protection to social media companies repealed. He also objected to renaming military bases that honor Confederate leaders. His other major issue was that it was not tough enough on China.
Trump is called the veto override “pathetic.”
On Twitter, Trump said the Republican-led Senate missed an opportunity to repeal Section 230, which grants liability protection to social media companies. It was one of the reasons the chief executive vetoed the defense policy bill in the first place.
He also claimed the GOP is keeping Americans from receiving two-thousand dollars in stimulus money, calling it “not fair, or smart.”
