STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — After an incident in Wood County involving a man sneaking a razor blade into a courtroom, a local District Attorney is asking for more security.
District Attorney Louis Molepske is urging officials from the City of Stevens Point to increase security in the courthouse.
His request stems from an incident in Wood County on Tuesday when a person used a razor blade to attempt to harm themselves inside a courtroom.
Molepske tells WAOW-TV it’s a reminder of how important it is to screen people at the door. “In Portage County we have court security currently on the second floor. By the time the person gets up to the second floor they have already passed two judge’s chambers with no security,”.
He also said because of COVID-19 dozens of jury trials have been postponed and will have to be pushed to the first floor where security should be in place.
