GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Former Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson has died. He was 68.
A report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says Thompson died Thursday night. Reporter Tom Silverstein tweeted: “Very sad news. Just heard from two sources that former #Packers GM Ted Thompson died last night. He had just turned 68 on Jan. 17.”
He was the team’s GM from 2005 to 2017.
Thompson drafted Aaron Rodgers in 2005 as the heir apparent to Brett Favre. It was also Thomspon who parted ways with Favre when he expressed reluctance to return for the 2008 season.
There are many current Packers who were drafted or signed while Thompson was general manager, including Davante Adams, James Jones, David Bakhtiari, Corey Linsley and Mason Crosby.
Thompson was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2019.
Cause of death and funeral arrangements have not been announced.
