WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A local high school football team is looking to raise funds for their program while also helping a good cause at the same time.
Starting February 1st the Wausau East Football Program will be collecting gently worn, used, or new shoes for a shoe drive. The shoe drive will raise funds for the football program along with giving back to small businesses in other countries.
Junior offensive lineman/linebacker Sawyer Trevillian explains how the donated shoes will help others outside of the football program. “And then Funds2Orgs will purchase the donated footwear. From there all the shoes are redistributed throughout Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprises partners in developing nations.
“This will help impoverished people start and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras, other countries in Central America, and Africa. The proceeds from the shoe sales are then used to feed, clothe, and house their families.”
There are several ways to donate shoes to the cause according to Trevillian beginning on February 1st. “We each receive a bag. We each have an individual goal of 25 pairs of shoes that we’re going to try and get in each of those bags. And then there will also be stations set up around the city like at City Hall and churches.”
Funds earned by the team to purchase equipment, merchandise, and concessions will be basked on the total weight of shoes collected by March 30th.
Gently worn, used, or new shoes can be donated at Wausau East High School, the Longfellow Administration Center, or any east-side school building.
