The song “Mad World” by British band Tears for Fears was a top hit in the 80’s. In part, the lyrics go:
“All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression…”
How prophetic and sad those words seem today, as those of us who still value personal freedom and individual choice encounter a sea of expressionless masked faces wherever we go. To be constantly reminded each day of the government’s overreaction to a virus with a higher than 99% survivability rate and our fellow citizens’ willing acceptance of measures which defy logic is literally going nowhere.
It’s beyond propaganda, it’s beyond hysteria, it’s madness.
The American people have been conditioned to react with fear rather than with common sense or logic. And what is more disconcerting is that this behavior is inherently un-American. What has happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave? What has happened to the leaders in this mad world?
The cancellation of outdoor summer events in Wisconsin that would take place six months from now further enables – and exacerbates the fear. No Balloon Fest, no Rib Fest in Wausau and a postponed Summerfest? Our nation’s veterans are rolling in their graves.
Reject the madness. Instead, channel your inner American. Remove the worn out mask that restricts your ability to think for yourself and get out there and live your life.
