MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Northeast Wisconsin’s two most populous counties remain in the “very high” category for coronavirus activity, while most of the rest of the area has dropped into the “high” category.
The state Department of Health Services’ weekly dashboard shows Brown, Outagamie, Calumet and Kewaunee counties as the four local areas remaining in the “very high” category, each with no significant change over the previous two weeks. Most of the rest of the state was also in the “high” category.
Only five counties statewide — including Florence County — had a growing trajectory of virus activity.
Meanwhile on Thursday, DHS reported 1,518 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, or 21.2% of the 7,174 total tests done. The state reported another 41 deaths.
Seven-day averages of new cases and test positivity fell to 1,229 and 19.4%, respectively, but deaths increased to 26 per day over the past week.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 546,955 confirmed cases, more than 2.5 million negative tests and 5,992 deaths.
Meanwhile, more than a quarter of Wisconsinites ages 65 and older have received at least one dose of vaccine. The state reports 129,766 people have completed their two-dose series. A total of 659,025 doses have been administered, including 39,558 on Wednesday.
As of Thursday, there were no patients at the state’s alternate care facility at State Fair Park.
Overall hospitalization numbers are expected to be updated later in the afternoon.
