MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WSAU) — Six different players scored as the Badger men defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers 8-1 on Sunday to complete a weekend sweep of their I-94 rivals.
Roman Ahcan and Ty Emberson each scored two goals while Stevens Point native Cole Caufield earned a Gordie Howe hat trick with one goal and two assists. Dylan Holloway was the top point-getter for the game as he finished with one goal and three assists.

Ben Meyers was the lone goal scorer for the Gophers.
Cameron Rowe stopped 27 of 28 shots in net to get the win. Minnesota ran out three different goalies in the contest with Jack LaFontaine tagged with the loss- he gave up four goals. Justen Close and Jared Moe gave up two each.
The win leapfrogs Wisconsin into first place in the Big Ten standings with 34 points. Both the Badgers and Gophers have identical win-loss records of 11-5, but one of Wisconsin’s losses came in overtime giving them an extra point in the standings.
The next action for the Badgers is against Michigan next Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Badger women skated to a 2-2 tie with the Gophers. Sophie Shirley and Maddi Wheeler helped the Badgers build a 2-0 lead, but the Gophers would score the game’s final two goals to earn the draw.
Kennedy Blair made 27 saves in the draw.
The two sides did play 3-on-3 overtime with neither side scoring. Minnesota then earned an extra point in the WCHA standings by winning the shootout.
Wisconsin remains in first place in the WCHA standings with 28 points (79% of possible points earned). Minnesota are in second place with 30 points, but that only represents 67% of their possible points. Next up for the Badgers is a weekend set with Bemidji State in Madison.
