WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of killing Christian Schauer in late December is now being held on a $1 million bond.
Shawn Carl was in a Marathon County courtroom on Thursday where a judge found probable cause for charges of first-degree intentional homicide in the case. His next court appearance will be March 8th.
Meanwhile, Shawn’s son, Jared Carl, will also face charges in the case of possession of stolen property for taking Schauer’s car, then trying to dispose of it. A judge also found probable cause against him and ordered a bond of $250,000 cash.
Jared was arrested last week when a tip from the public led officers to Schauer’s car.
Detectives say Jared told them his father had shot Schauer five or six times in his vehicle over a drug deal.
Schauer’s body was found on December 29th by fur trappers in a rural part of Marathon County. Officers said evidence at the scene pointed to the body being dumped.
