ANN ARBOR, MI (WSAU) — The Michigan Wolverines halted Wisconsin’s win streak at four games with a 5-1 win Saturday in Ann Arbor.
Freshman Mathieu De St. Phalle put Wisconsin on the board first with a transition goal near the midway point of the first period. Owen Lindmark was credited with the assist.
Michigan rattled off five straight over the rest of the game, keeping the likes of Cole Caufield and Linus Weissbach off the score sheet.
Robbie Beydoun was pulled after two periods and four goals allowed. Cameron Rowe finished the game in net, making 16 saves on 17 shots faced in the final frame.
All goals in the game were scored on even-strength action. There were just two penalties called in the contest; a hooking call against Michigan’s Nick Granowicz early in the first and a slash against Wisconsin’s Roman Ahcan in the third.
The Badgers had won their last four in a row and six of their last seven including two wins last weekend over Minnesota to propel them into first place in the Big Ten standings. With Saturday’s loss, the Badgers now sit in second behind the Gophers with one game in hand.
Wisconsin and Michigan skate again this afternoon. Coverage begins at 3:30 on WSAU following the men’s basketball game between the same two teams.
