WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Zachary Koosmann, the Wood County resident accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist while driving drunk, will be sentenced on April 9th for charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Court records show Koosmann was convicted of the felony count back in January, after admitting he was the driver that struck Melissa Piesik as she was riding her bike.
Koosmann does have two prior OWI convictions on his record which date back to 2006. Breath tests and blood tests from the day of the crash show his Blood Alcohol Content was between .19 and .22, well above the legal limit for diving.
The 43-year-old Piesik was a teacher in the Stevens Point school district and a resident of Grand Rapids. Koosmann reportedly tried to give her first aid at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
