WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau School District has released a statement regarding a recent homework question that was given in a physical science class.
According to a statement Wednesday morning, the story-problem question that ended with the student’s being asked to calculate the velocity of a bullet being fired at a team’s mascot during a game.
School leaders say they have had discussions with the teachers who gave the assignment, and they have expressed remorse for the question and promised to change it.
The Wausau school district also released the following statement regarding the question:
School safety is a top priority in the Wausau School District. However, District Administration has recently learned of an assignment in the Wausau East High School Physical Science Class that uses an inappropriate example of a crime scene investigation (CSI) of an assassination to calculate velocity.
When a parent brought the concern to the Administration, officials immediately met with the teachers. The teachers regret their decision and will change the assignment immediately.
The Wausau School District prides itself on school safety and high academic standards.
